Remembering Louie Padovan

May 31, 1921 - November 6, 2010

Louie Padovan, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Anacortes on November 6, 2010. He was born on May 31, 1921 and grew up on Guemes Island. His mother and father were Lucy Kirola Padovan and John Murphy Padovan. Louie attended the Guemes Island School through the eighth grade and then transferred to the ninth grade in Anacortes where he was elected class president.

After graduating from high school in 1941, Louie joined the Coast Guard where he served through the end of World War II. On October 26, 1942 he married Marguerite Scribner of Anacortes. After leaving the Coast Guard in 1945, Louie and Marguerite made their home in Anacortes while Louie fished commercially in Puget Sound and Alaska. Louie served in the Anacortes Police Department from 1952 until 1956 when he joined the Washington State Department of Fisheries. Louie served as a Washington State Fisheries Patrolman in Westport, Port Angeles, and Anacortes. He retired from the Fisheries Department in 1982. Louie also served as a volunteer Fireman with the Anacortes Fire Department from 1964 until 1989.

Louie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marguerite; his sons, Gary, Dennis, and John; and his daughters-in-law, Marie Padovan and Connie Cantrell.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November, 10, 2010 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Edens Cemetery on Guemes Island. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
