GUEMES CITIZENS MOBILIZE TO SAVE CIVILIZATION
A group of islanders was so moved by the recent showing on PBS of the film Plan B: Mobilizing to Save Civilization featuring Lester Brown, that they have booked the church, which has the best summertime viewing space, for 3 community showings in August.  The film is 83 minutes long and will be shown in its entirety.  An optional discussion period will follow.  The intent of the film is to increase awareness of problems resulting from global climate change and to offer possible solutions.   Brown hits areas not often mentioned, such as, impending food shortages and failed states. The core Island group plans to launch a local pilot program aimed at young people by sponsoring an essay contest with a monetary award.  Do plan to participate in one of the showings:  Tuesday, August 2, at 6PM;  Sunday matinee, August 14, at 2PM; and Tuesday, August 16, at 6PM.
