CERT,
a Community Emergency Response Team, is a team of island volunteers who
are prepared, if called upon to do so by the Guemes Island Fire Chief,
to respond to any disaster (high winds, winter storm, forest fire, earthquake,
hazardous spill, or some other man-made disaster) that the island experiences.
However, each household should prepare to take care of itself for at least
the first 72 hours.
Disaster preparedness
pamphlets have been distributed to help you prepare. If you did not receive
them, contact your neighborhood leader or download the Family
Emergency Preparedness Plan [390k PDF].

Contributions to the Medical Supplies Closet
Thanks to Helen Tucker, an electric wheelchair is available to any island
resident who needs one. This is in addition to three manual wheelchairs.
Helen generously donated several other items, so try the Guemes Medical
Closet before you buy equipment or ask for help from the Anacortes Soropotomists.
On-island service
is available 24 hours a day, and either Anne Jackets or Gail Nicolls will
deliver. Call Anne first at 293-0530 because the equipment is stored in
the Jackets' garage, but if you do not reach her, call Gail at 293-9540
and she will bring it to you.
Successful
Fundraiser
The Ship Wreck Day
sale was a rousing success! We raised $1,200 for CERT (Community Emergency
Response Team) of Guemes Island. Thanks to the hard work of William and
Michael Pellett and the generous donations of "good stuff" by
Guemes Islanders, a check for $1,200 from the Ship Wreck Day sale will
be delivered to Gail Nicolls, the volunteer coordinator of CERT.
Thank
you to all who made the sale work through their donations of "good
stuff" in support of CERT.
