Public Hearing On Guemes Ferry Fares and Schedule
In rapid succession, the Skagit County Commissioners passed three resolutions R20070541, R20070542, R20070543), calling for a public hearing December 4 to discuss their desire to rescind several previous resolutions that set a methodology for determining fares and put the current fare structure and ferry schedule in place. A new ferry schedule and a new method for determining ferry fares have not yet been proposed. The Resolutions to be rescinded are R20060338, R20050405, R20050298, and R20040054. Resolution R20040054 adopted the Scheduling and Fares Task Force recommendations which advocated a "bridge analogy" for determining which operational costs were to be recovered through fares. In addition, the Commissioners signed Resolution R20070511, authorizing $350,000 for the design and construction of a new ferry terminal in Anacortes.
