8th Annual

Dog Island Run!

198 participants registered for the 8th annual 10 K Dog Island Run/2 M Walk on Saturday, June 4. Nearly 50 more than 2004. The slightly overcast sky/cool morning temperatures appealed to all involved. All except two participants were from within Washington State. By the time Tim Wittman read the winning times and awarded ribbons and trophies, there was plenty of blue sky and sunshine.

Reinhard Scheumann {Hanover, Germany} and his wife Yumiko (Tokyo, Japan} are in Federal Way, WA for a few months working for WorldVision. Surfing the web, they discovered the DIR info on linetime.org and headed north to see Guemes Island while Reinhard ran the 10K.

Vic Armstrong {#30} a member of Silver Sneakers, was the oldest runner at age 80. The Silver Sneakers from Bothell, WA YMCA came out en force with 39 members.

Leigh McKibbon Hall {#171} carried 2 1/2 month old Ryan Hall while she walked the 2 K. He slept the entire time. His uncle Marc Aversa had a third place finish this year He placed first in 2004.

Louise Smith had another first place finish this year and bettered her 2004 time by almost 1 minute.

The Guemes Island Library Board would like to thank the many Island Volunteers who worked hard in all operations of the event and helped to make this years Dog Island Run a great success.

The June 4 Dog Island Run was a huge success thanks to the following volunteers: Tom Andrak, Mark Buchman, Sara Baumert, Jim and Reva Dugan, Terry Ebersole, Susie Fox, Peter and Donna Haas, Chuck and Vicki Hallingstad, Mike Jackets, Carol Mays, Marcus and Margene Merrow, Joseph Miller, Jim Morrison, Howard Pellett, Ed Rombeek, Connie Snell, Mark and Cece Spahr, Cathi Spitser, Brian Stuart, and Tim and Jackie Wittman. Special thanks to Sherri Graham, the Chandler's Square bus driver.

Netting approximately $2,000, the Guemes Island Library's main fundraiser will provide financial support from the balance of 2005 through May June 2006.
