Ferry Committee Election Results

April 16, 2004

There are 5 tables set up for counting ballots. One for each candidate running and one for write in candidates. Once all the envelopes are open the ballots are placed upon the table with the corresponding candidate’s name.

It becomes pretty obvious rather quickly that one candidate is leading the pack. These ballots could be counted by how tall the stacks are.

As of April 15 there are 500 registered voters in the #27 Guemes Island precinct (21 people recently registered here). Of those a full 75% voted for the ferry committee member of their choice. Of the 373 ballots cast only two were disqualified. One of those was on panda stationary and not on an official ballot.

There are actually 12 ballots postmarked 4/15/04 which are retrieved from mail this morning.

There was an additional ballot dropped at the store after 7:00PM last night. Not that those 12 votes make any difference in the outcome.

Thanks to the official counters, Carol Pellett, Jim and Reva Dugan. They dispatched their duties efficiently. Thanks also to Susan Churchill for being the island election official.

The official count:

Glen Veal 254

Jim O’Neal 76

Victor Garcia 33

William McWatters 6

Howard Pellett 2 [write in]
