GIFC Quarterly Meeting

Glen Veal thanked Joseph Miller @linetime.org and Win Anderson Anderson’s Store for their help in communication to the Guemes Island Ferry ridership.

He also introduced Jack Harmon and John Richards from Arrow Launch and thanked them for attending. The agenda for the meeting was displayed using an overhead projector

GIFC has represented Guemes ridership since 1980 and will continue to do so

Schedule has been modified to better serve students attending school in Anacortes
Student ID’s are in place the county is considering procedures to handle lost ID cards

Holiday Eve schedule has been implement starting with thanksgiving 11/24/04.

Roundtable Resolution was signed by the Commissioners 11/08/04 which defined the public comment period of these meeting to be the first 15 minutes of each meeting

Anacortes parking lot may be usable the end of December 2004 but the project will possibly be completed until spring 2005

Discussion

1. Parallel parking; an attendee requested that angle parking be extended east down the north side of 6th street to the new parking lot.
2. Loss of parking spaces -- If the RR grade lot were paved and striped according to city standards 60% of the spaces would be lost (24 spaces).
3. Completion of project is scheduled for the spring of 2005
4. The oil catch basin for the Guemes lot should be covered

No reader board installation on either side since county planning would not permit it.

Passenger shelter designs still unknown

Discussion

The GIFC was told that a bus type shelter was purchased by county
Goal is west side access to the ferry on both Anacortes and Guemes

PERC decision (originated from crew grievance on shift schedule) 10/04/04 - County lost. 2-3 year time frame for appeal process.

Return to 3-person ferry operation has been requested by the GIFC. The county is considering the request.

Offsite ticket sales - Negotiation with union are required to sell tickets in another location

Ticket book transferability within families questioned
Ferry crews are unable to police transfers of ticket books

Discussion about an annual pass for walk on passengers

Frequent user books date extended through first quarter 2005 due to piling work.

Union negotiations are ongoing with the next meeting end of12/04
