Guemes Ferry Out of Service 28% of the Time

This chart maps the days on which the Guemes Ferry service has been out or interrupted (the black squares) since October 2004.

In October, November and December four dolphins were replaced. While the ferry did run on many of these days, service was often limited to less than half the usual number of car ferry runs and often as few as four runs per day.

The vessel's outdrive failed in January 2005 and the steering in mid March.

The outdrive failed a second time later in March and returned to service early in April.

Steering unit problems interrupted service most of the morning on April 27.

Steering unit problems interrupted service again most of the morning on May 1.

Steering problems interrupted service for several hours on the morning of June 29.

The passenger only ferry service since September 8 was itself disrupted by the failure to plan for beach landings at low tide (below +3). The Strait Arrow carried passengers to Cap Sante Marina, making ferry departures from either side unpredictable.

More than three weeks have been added to the outage in October. When this is included, car ferry service will have been disrupted or completely unvavailable 104 days out of 363 - 28% of the time!
