The minutes of the Annual General Membership meeting of June 14, 2008, were read and approved.

Carol Pellett, Treasurer, presented her report.  There is a balance in the checking account of $536.97 as of June 6, 2009.  Dues payments are arriving at this time.  In the Guemes Gold Scholarship savings account there is a balance of $3,057.00 as of June 6, 2009.

Discussion of the scholarship fund followed.  Carol Harma questioned whether there was thought about increasing the scholarships in the future.  Bob Groeschell told the meeting that he would share with Guemes youth information about other available and applicable scholarships.  Other island organizations will be asked to join GIPOA in financially supporting the scholarship.  This years winners were Ivy Gwost, Adair Cardon, and Nora Woofenden.

The following officers were re-elected:

Howard Pellett          President

Carol Pellett              Treasurer

Rob Schroder            On Island Trustee

Gil Anderson            Off Island Trustee

Anne Jackets            On Island Trustee

Peggy Starr and Leda Hayden were elected Citizens of the Year.  Both were recognized for their outstanding involvement of service to the island.  Neither was in attendance.

Mike Stamper, the new Fire Chief, spoke about the responsibilities of this position.  He is addressing the big challenge of making a culture of professional fire fighters.  He is very proud of  his people.  He thanked Guemes CERT and Guemes Connects for their outstanding cooperation and team work with the Fire Department.  Regarding fireworks, Chief Stamper reminded the meeting that if you start a fire with illegal firworks, you will have to pay for all damage.  And that could be a lot.

Paul Beaudet and David Wertheimer presented on their Sustainable Home Remodel.  The guiding principles of their outstanding work were (1) create a more energy efficient home, (2) use earth-friendly materials, and (3) generate as little waste as possible.  The talk was entertaining and instructive.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
