Remembering Jeff Gent

Geoffrey passed in Anacortes on Guemes Island, November 7, 2016 at the age 73. He was born in Seattle, on September 17, 1943 to parents: Richard and Frances (Walker) Gent.

Jeff was raised in Seattle in Rainier Valley, and graduated from Franklin High School in 1961. Following two years in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam, Jeff knocked around Australia and New Zealand before settling in the Perth area for about 20 years. While in Perth, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Western Australia.

In 1991 Jeff returned to Guemes Island where he owned and operated a gravel pit and excavating service until emphysema forced him into semi-retirement over the last few years.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, several canine companions and recently by lifelong friends: Frank Turner, Gordy Gardner, and Chick Vance. He is survived by his partner and companion Colette McNutt, son Dirk, granddaughter Ina, sister Judy (Foley), brother Jerry, niece Mackenzie Cannon, loyal pup Oreo, and many great friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Eden Cemetery, Guemes Island, followed by a Celebration Party of Jeff’s life at the Guemes Island Community Center from 3 p.m. to ?

Remembrances may be made to a Veterans aid group or an Animal welfare organization.
