Draft Minutes for the September 9, 2019 Meeting of the

Guemes Island Planning Advisory Committee

 

Meeting was called to order by Hal Rooks at 6:35pm.  Present were Hal Rooks, Michael Brown, Steve Orsini, Allen Bush, Patty Rose, Edith Walden, board emeritus Gary Curtis and Nancy Fox by conference call.  Also present were Brandt Detering, Barb Ohms, Michael Gray, Joyce Fleming and Marianne Kooiman.

The draft agenda was approved.

The minutes from the August meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s report – Checking account has $2,794.25 and the Roz Glasser bequest fund has $9,711.35

Update/New Business – Hal Rooks led a discussion into updating the GIPAC Bylaws.  The group agreed on one change to the draft presented and made plans to review the revised Bylaws at its next meeting. A “cleaned up” version of the Articles of Incorporation will also be on the agenda for adoption.

The annual meeting was confirmed to be November 17, 2019 from 2-4 pm at the Community Center.  There will be a regular meeting of the board on November 4, 2019 at 6:30pm.

USGS update – Hal Rooks led a discussion concerning funding for the USGS hydrogeologic recharge study of Guemes aquifers and its proposed expansion to include the San Juan Islands.  Edith Walden, Patty Rose, Michael Brown, and Nancy Fox agreed to begin planning a fundraising drive to raise money for the Guemes portion of the USGS study.

Peach Preserve update - Patty Rose said the plants are starting to thrive after some well-timed rain in August.  There will be additional plants purchased from the Native Plant Society on October 19th.
