Call To Action

Hello fellow Guemians -

We are moved to action. It is not enough for us to be non-racist. Now is the time for us to be anti-racist. As two members of this community we want to actively support people of color and marginalized groups of people in every way we can. We want Black, Indigenous, People of Color to know they are welcome with love and equality here on Guemes. So, we are creating signage that expresses these ideals for public spaces on the island. With your help, we can do the right thing.

If you are a parent and would like to involve your child in this activity, please respond to the email address below letting us know and we will provide you with the words/ or sentence we need your child to write, the length will depend on the amount of people who express interest. Then, drop off your assigned words written on a piece of paper at the box at community pantry, or scan if you have the means and email to jessica@slowshirts.com. Jessica will include your child’s artwork on this sign.

We will be using all the submitted artwork to create signs for distribution on the island. Westar - a locally owned business - will be printing these for us. We are asking for a suggested donation of $10/sign. If you would like one, please do so at this PayPal account set up to receive donations that will go directly to Westar to produce signage - paypal.me/pools/c/8pJAD6UCT9

Any excess funds will be donated to ACLU-Washington.

Please direct any communication to me, Sarah Banning, at onecrazyvirgo@gmail.com.

We hope to flood Guemes Island with signs of support.

Thank you for your action!

On Guemes Island, we believe:
Black Lives Matter
Love is Love
Science is Real
Water is Life
No Human is Illegal
Women’s Rights are Human Rights

In community spirit,
